Imagine this situation: it’s midnight and you are in bed scrolling through social media and checking all the emails you haven’t read during the day. You decide to go to sleep and connect your phone to the charger right next to you to make sure your alarm wakes you up the next day. That’s what happens to most of us! We tend to sleep with our phones really close to us, but is that good for our health? The answer is: not so much! Here are some reasons why:
- It can give you a hard time falling asleep
That’s right! When we go to sleep with our phone right next to us we are likely to wake up every time we get a notification, a call or a text message. It’s better to keep it away so the sounds don’t disturb you at night.
- It can inhibit the production of your sleep hormone
Nowadays phones and other electronic devices such as tablets have something called “blue light.” According to some studies, this light can inhibit the production of the sleep-inducing hormone melatonin and disrupt our circadian rhythms. Our recommendation is to put away your phone at least 1 hour before you go to bed so that you can enjoy a night of restful sleep.
- It can cause an accident!
There have been different stories in the news from people claiming their phones exploded out of nowhere. Some have been hurt by this kind of accident while luckily some others haven’t. You never know if this is going to happen to your phone, so you better be cautious and keep it at a safe distance from your bed. Like some people say.. better to be safe than sorry!
